Who is the Professional Business Diploma for?
The Professional Business Diploma is for anyone aged 18 and over who would like to gain practical business and workplace skills for a business career. We teach face-to-face in central Oxford, in structured tutored lessons for up to 20 hours per week.
Do I need certain A Levels or grades to gain a place at OMBS?
No, every student is treated individually. However, we do ask for A-levels or equivalent for entry. University graduates who desire the practical business workplace skills that this course delivers are also welcome to apply.
These entry requirements should be read as a guide. We encourage students to talk to us if they do not have the exact requirements indicated above. You will go through an application process and could have an interview with the Principal before you decide whether to study with us.
Do UCAS and personal statements apply?
No, you do not need to complete these to study at Oxford Media & Business School.
Can I get a student loan to study at OMBS?
No, studying with us unfortunately does not make you eligible for a student loan.
Do you offer any other courses apart from the Professional Business Diploma?
No, we only offer the Professional Business Diploma at this current time.
Is there a high chance of gaining employment after finishing the course?
Yes. Our graduates usually secure employment very quickly after the course finishes, however some of our students will take a gap year or go on to study at university.
The graduates that do want to begin their careers usually find employment quickly for several reasons. The first is the practical workplace skills they learn with us (valued by business employers), as well as their confidence, interview skills and quality of their CV, alongside the networking and recruitment contacts they make while studying with us.
What is the Professional Business Diploma timetable like?
You will be in structured timetabled lessons for up to 20 hours a week and be expected to complete independent learning outside of these hours. Students are required to attend the business school every weekday, according to their scheduled group lesson timetable. Lessons finish by 5pm on weekdays, and by 1pm on a Friday.
When would the course start? Can it be completed remotely?
The course begins late September and ends mid–July. We teach face to face and we do not offer remote learning at this time.
Where is your accommodation and what is it like?
OMBS has a portfolio of comfortable student houses around the city in fashionable and lively student areas such as Jericho, the Cowley Road and Grandpont. Find out more about our accommodation here.
Do I have to stay in OMBS accommodation if I am studying with you?
No, although most of our students do. A few students find their own accommodation, and those living locally can commute.
Are there opportunities to gain hands-on experience in an office environment?
As part of the course you will get to do a week’s work experience in a business sector of interest. Some of your assignments will also be workplace simulated, giving you a real feel for the business environment.
Are there opportunities for students to engage with faculty outside of the classroom?
We encourage our students to get involved in the numerous clubs, societies and sports that Oxford offers in abundance. We are closely associated with Oxford Brookes University and their social committee.
Do I get to meet other Oxford students while studying at OMBS?
Yes, you’ll get to meet other students while studying at OMBS. We encourage you to enjoy the university lifestyle the city of Oxford offers, mixing with other students and enjoying as many social events as possible throughout the year. OMBS students are also invited to join the Oxford Union.
Is there a physical copy of the qualification certificate?
Yes, you will receive a graduation certificate at the official graduation ceremony in July. Find out more about what happens at graduation here.
Am I able to bring my car if I study with you?
Yes, OMBS accommodation allows for two cars per household. If you are using alternative accommodation, you will need to discuss and agree this with your own landlord.
